Welcome to OSCI: Building Community, Independence, and the Mortensen House
A spinal cord injury changes life in an instant, but no one should have to navigate that journey alone.
At Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection (OSCI), our mission is to ensure everyone living with a spinal cord injury has the care, community, and resources needed to thrive.
One of our newest initiatives is the Mortensen House, Oregon’s first transitional housing program created specifically for people with spinal cord injuries. Designed to bridge the gap between inpatient rehabilitation and returning home, the Mortensen House offers a safe, accessible environment where guests can continue building the skills, confidence, and support network needed for successful community reintegration.
In addition to transitional stays, the Mortensen House is now welcoming short-term guests from the spinal cord injury community. Whether you’re traveling to the Portland area for medical appointments, rehabilitation, work, family visits, adaptive recreation, or simply need an accessible place to stay, the Mortensen House provides a comfortable, fully accessible home designed with the needs of wheelchair users in mind. The Mortensen House is just one example of OSCI’s commitment to improving lives across Oregon. Throughout the year, OSCI hosts peer support groups, educational workshops, adaptive recreation opportunities, community events, advocacy initiatives, and volunteer programs that foster connection and reduce isolation for people living with spinal cord injuries and their families.
Our work is only possible because of a dedicated community of volunteers, donors, healthcare partners, and supporters who believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live independently and participate fully in their community.
